LPR cameras, or license plate recognition cameras, are used for surveillance and are capable of capturing video and extracting numbers and letters from license plates of moving vehicles.
These cameras can accurately capture number plates day or night thanks to advanced features like variable shutter speeds, high contrast video, and headlight compensation. ANPR cameras, also known as Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras, go beyond this by using optical character recognition to retrieve and store plate numbers.
In comparison, standard security cameras can only capture clear video of license plates on parked vehicles during the day and struggle to filter light reflected from plates at night, making the footage grainy and unusable.
